D A V E ' S T E R M 1 2 8
by Dave Jansen
On the last issue, LS 128 #26, we introduced what we call the "most
ambitious 128 program ever attempted", DAVE'S TERM 128. Dave Jansen, a
veteran modem user, got tired of wrestling with the many terminal programs
out there and decided to write the ultimate one -- one that would allow him
to do all of the things he'd ever wanted to do while on-line.
Dave was quite successful with his plan and sold it to LOADSTAR. Our
only problem was figuring out how to present his 800K juggernaut on
LOADSTAR 128. We decided to run the term shell and a few essential modules
on last issue. The four documentation files on LS 128 #26 explained as
much as possible about the shell and the modules on that issue.
On this issue we've added 34 more modules (and their docs), most of
which are handy tools like disk and file copiers, nibblers, a disk editor,
a font editor, a calculator, etc. THE SHELL IS NOT ON THIS DISK. It's on
LS 128 #26 so you must have #26 in order to use these modules. If you just
started your subscription to LOADSTAR with LS 128 #27 then you should call
1-800-594-3370 and order #26 as a back issue -- if you want to use this
excellent program. Our prices have recently been reduced to their lowest
levels ever, so now's a good time to get back issues. Call for more
information.
There are six text files on this issue and we recommend that you print
them out. They are numbered #5 through #10 since #1 through #4 were
published on LS 128 #26. Dave Jansen wrote these detailed docs and
explains things very well. Even if you don't plan to use DAVE'S TERM 128
to get online and chat with the rest of the world, you should print out the
docs. Everyone can use the tools that comprise DT128, especially the ones
on this issue. Plus, the information that Dave throws out by way of
explanation is not easy to come by these days.
On LOADSTAR 128 #28 we will present the rest of the modules and their
documentation. Most of these are concerned with packing techonolgy (arc,
ark, zip, sda, lharc, rle, etc.) or with graphics (c/g, koala, gif, ansi,
etc.). There's also a spell checker, which portends to be another headache
for your editor who has to figure out how to put more stuff on a disk than
will legitimately fit. Stay tuned -- and remember:
YOU MUST HAVE DAVE'S TERM FROM LS 128 #26 TO USE THESE MODULES.
